PADI Freediver

Taking the PADI Freediver course is your first step toward discovering why freediving is becoming a popular way to explore beneath the waves.

Sign up today so we can get you on your way to your next new adventure!!!

When you sign up for freediving, the first thing we'll do is get you set up with the Freediver eLearning.  The eLearning interactive study tool gives you the background information you need to freedive safely and allows you to learn at your own pace. Our PADI Freediver Instructor will check on your progress and make sure you understand important freediving information.

To enroll in a PADI Freediver course you must be at least 12 years old. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with snorkeling, skin diving or freediving is required.

You must sign up, in advance, with enough time to complete the eLearning materials prior to the first course date.  The course date you choose is the actual in person portion of the class.  Additionally, the medical and liability forms must be completed prior to the first in person session.

Once the eLearning is complete, the PADI Freediver course consists of three sessions:

  • Classroom - You will refresh the fundamentals of freediving, physics and physiology, learn breathing techniques and stretching exercises, as well as freedive safety.
  • Confined water session - In this pool session you will learn breath hold techniques as well as static and dynamic apnea. Goal – static apnea of 90 seconds and dynamic apnea of 25 meters/80 feet.
  • Open water sessions - Here you will practice free immersion and constant weight freedives, plus proper buddy procedures. Goal – constant weight freedive of 10 meters/30 feet. Open Water Sessions go to a maximum of 60ft

In the PADI Freediver course, you learn to use a low volume mask, freediving snorkel and freediving fins.  You may also need to use a wetsuit and weight belt depending on conditions and requirements.

Using gear designed specifically for freediving is best, however, in this course, you may be able to use snorkeling equipment you already own, as long as it is free diving quality.  You will want to discuss this with your Freediver instructor prior to the pool and open water sessions.
